What is Chaplaincy?
Chaplaincy is an expression of ministry that places chaplains inside various settings, which include hospitals, corporations, prisons, public safety agencies, and the military services. As such, chaplaincy is an extension of the local church reaching into our diverse and multi-cultural society providing spiritual care to people. Chaplains perform the roles of pastor, teacher, evangelist, counselor, and administrator as they represent the church and the denomination from "inside" the using agency.
Where do Chaplains and Counselors in ministry serve?
  • Military chaplains serve in all components of the armed services through the Chaplain Corps of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Civil Air Patrol.
  • Healthcare facilities - Hospital Chaplains serve in general medical centers, Veterans Affairs (VA) medical and psychiatric centers, developmental disability, hospice, home care, and retirement facilities..
  • Institutions, including correctional facilities, children’s homes, and academies.
  • Corporate settings, including businesses, motels/hotels, sports organizations, and other related areas.
  • Public safety, including law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services.

In fact, many churches would not exist today without volunteer help. “Builders for Christ” (BFC) was organized to involve individuals and/or families in missions and has been designed as another opportunity for the building needs in the United States. BFC assists churches and missions build new or additional buildings. We are not all professionals and we come from different walks of life.
We go to build & We get built
In 1999 Wendell & Joanne Unger went on their first mission trip and was so touched by what God did in their lives. They would love to expand a team here in the Fox Valley. We have been so blessed by these mission trips and would love to share this excitement with you. We look forward to each mission trip. Each year is different and exciting; we have seen God’s hand in each trip. It is amazing what God can do.At the work siteWe start off the week arriving on Saturday, joining some of the crew that has already arrived on the site. At 6:00pm we break for dinner, which is the time for our first circle up. Joining hand in hand we have prayer for special needs, the project, and for the team members that are still in route. Following dinner there is a devotion, music and time for anyone to share. This takes place during and after each meal. Sunday we worship with the church and fellowship. On Monday and Tuesday we are back at work. Wednesday we board a bus for some site seeing. We call it a day to play. Thursday and Friday we are back at the worksite. Friday evening we have a dedication service praising God for what he has done with us, his tools. If you or you know of someone that would like to know more about “Builders for Christ” Contact

2010-2011 Missions Report

by Vision Team Roger Lance, Missions Team Leader

During 2010 we had 3 main areas of focus which are listed below:
1.        Operation Outreach 20102.        Vision Team to Visit churches.3.        Ministry Leaders/Coordinators
1.      Operation Outreach 2010.  We did have mission teams come and work in our Association from other associations. The number of teams was less but the quality of work completed was good. Thanks churches for hosting the teams.

2.      The Vision Team visiting churches.  Rick Springer and Roger Lance had an assignment which was to contact certain churches to determine who the Chairman of the Deacons was and when they met.  With this the assignment was to meet with the Deacons and determine how FVBA could help their church. The attempt was made either by phone call or email but the end result was not positive. Most of the churches that were contacted did not respond.

3.      Ministry Leaders/CoordinatorsThe list of ministry opportunities that was identified with FVBA still exists.  Some names have been identified as possible leaders for individual ministries.  Further contact and research will be made in 2011.  Future Idea for Missions in FVBA in the year 2011:

1)
Missions Spectacular Saturday in June 2011.  Further research and planning to come.

2)
Developing a Block Party Trailer—See DOM Report for Details.

3)
Continue to pursue Multihousing Ministries especially in the Bartlett area.

Thanks,
Roger Lance 815 347-1956

A verse from the Word...

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” -Jeremiah 17:7-8
